Avril Lavigne Album review.

OK first of all I want to say that I’m a fan of the little blond Canadian or use to be, why use to be? Well because of this album mostly but I’ll explain a little more, so grab a cup of Timmy’s bring the family and gather around for my first review of a music album.

Well first I want to show my credentials, because you can say I don’t liked that song or that other thing, but why can you say that if you don’t know the artist, if you are not familiar with his/her work? That is what makes deeper your statement, if you know it, you don’t have to like it, but know it. So yes first how I started to like her.

But I realized it was too long so you can just click here to read the whole story :P

Well now the real deal, what happens with the album that is not that great? Well I was listening to the first video “Never growing up” and I hear something off, something that wasn’t right wasn’t the voice but I didn’t like it as the past albums, so I forgot about it and keep going with my life then the “Hello Kitty” song came out and everybody said that it was horrible, so I had to listen to it, and it was not that bad but I saw in YouTube that there were more videos from the last album and oh, the horror. I listen to every single song of the new album and I concluded what happened…

She turned into Nickelback! One of the worst things that could ever happen to anyone! And I realized what was the thing that was off about the song never growing up, and the rest of the album, is the rhythm! Avril has a very particular way of singing how her voice is part of the melody, where she takes the high notes and where she makes longer the words and in that album she was hitting all the wrong places, sounds like she doesn’t know her own strengths or even her natural rhythm, is like she try to sing like somebody else, is just awful, like a train wreck or somebody choking on her own blood.

Also I saw that the best 2 songs of the album were Never Growing Up and Hello Kitty, and are not in the same level as the worst of the other albums.

Never Growing Up is a song where you are waiting that the tempo of the song pick up, to have some ups and downs like a normal song, but you just wait for the song to “get to the good part” and never gets there, is just the same pace, I feel that it was like the first draft of the song, just the first idea and never work on it again, feels like it got stuck on the beginning, but in some level it feels still like Avril.

Hello Kitty for me is the best song of the album, but not because is great, but because the album is very bad, the song is fun, it would be a good song as filler of a good album, but is by no means a good song to buy the album for it, is repetitive and also if you pay attention to the lyrics you can see that is not a song written by a girl, because it has some connotations that can be taken as sexual references from a guy to a girl, because is calling a girl (That is the kitty) to have a slumber party and is tells the girl to invite more girls, and calling them silly. I know this might seem a little far fetch or a stretch but if you listen to the rest of her albums she is always very direct and this one feels like somebody else gave her this song. Also I don’t think the video is racist is just a way to hide the lyrics, because it has nothing to do with the cartoon “Hello Kitty”

And for the rest of the songs, they feel like nickelback and that is never a good thing.

Even the cover is awful, I think that always reflect something of the album, what was going to be, some evolution, but here is just… that.

So if you want to buy the album it would be against my advice because this one is nothing like any of the past ones, there is no feeling in it, no evolution or even a hint of life in it.

My History With A. Ramona Lavigne

I’m not afraid of admitting that I like Avril Ramona Lavigne (Yes her middle name is Ramona) you can check my FB and there says that I like her. Some people might say it was at first sight but I don’t believe in that, because you may like how something looks at first sight, but to really like something you have to appreciate it and you need to understand it to fully appreciate it. So yes, I really like her music and I think she is beautiful and talented or I did until the last album.  That will be explained in the next post in like 10 minutes after I posted this one.  :P

It sounded really weird for everybody that knew me when they heard I liked the first album, because the guy with the gigantic poster of Rammstein on his wall, lots of speed metal and who dress like a psychopath is really weird to like some girly stuff, right? Well, at first I didn’t like her, I remember when the first video came out I was in México and there we have the channel “Sony” and at the time they had music videos between shows and “Complicated” was there around noon and every time I changed the channel without even giving it a chance.

I always thought “Is just a pretty girl, like a skater Barbie” but by the same reason I never wanted to watch it. So my life kept on going until one day a guy from my Dungeons and Dragons group asked me to leave his discman on my backpack (Yes, discman) and inside had Avril’s album "Let Go", he forgot to ask for it and left. A couple of hours later I realized that I had it, but I was already home so I decided to hear the CD, why? Because it was black with a red star and no name on it, so I needed to know what was in it, but I listened to the CD skipping songs, just listening to the first seconds, until I heard “Skater Boy” the intro of the song caught me, then I heard more songs and liked them, so I returned the CD and Discman and bought one for myself (a CD not a discman :P ) and listen to it a lot. Well I really liked it, the lyrics, the feeling everything there hit me really hard, even the pitch of her voice was great for me. And I know that I sound like a serial killer when I say that but that is how it was, besides my brother tells me that I have a lot of the traits of a serial killer. Also I started to watch the videos, and even joined the street crew, that was the official Avril’s fan club, that then got dissolved and turned into other thing that you had to pay for it so fuck it, I don’t have the money.

So I kept buying the CD’s and watching videos and more Fan stuff. And I liked every album because you could see her grew, not every song was a hit but I saw a reflection of her life in every album, “Let Go” the door to adulthood, “Under My Skin” anger and hurt, “The Best Damn Thing” standing for herself like –I’m not going to be hurt again–, Goodbye Lullaby Sadness, but keeping it strong -She got hurt again-

But now… Well just read the review
